Praise for Classes, Workshops & Seminars
Ok, I wanted to share - We learned about shock (way more that what we learned at BEST), in depth look at the midwife's medicine cabinet (again, tons of information, super in depth), IV fluids (when to use, how, supplies needed, and how to plus lots of hands-on practice), estimating amniotic fluid, NSTs, BPPs, listening to FHTs (again, super in depth), cervical assessment and fetal head positioning (also in depth), Twins, breech, ECV, shoulder dystocia, encouraging labor (super in depth), EBL, preventing hemorrhage, suturing... (deep breath, whew!) Augustine shares so many good tips and tricks (I'm going to share one of my favs) "do not attend births full time and take time for yourself from the birth you're doing" YES!!

I found Augustine's Advanced Midwifery workshop to be extremely educational and helpful in my advancement as a CPM. She gave very practical, tangible instructions for catching ominous decels at home which I have never been able to read in a textbook. I came away with so much confidence that I will be able to transfer moms who shouldn't be kept at home and keep home moms who can safely be kept home, which is priceless.
“Her lesson on correcting fetal malposition was also extremely helpful with tips and hands-on lessons which I have never been able to learn at any workshop or from any textbook. Her hemorrhage lesson included information beyond the usual few steps which all the textbooks and simple workshops touch on.
I absolutely feel like this was an advanced midwifery workshop and is worth awarding CEUs for. As a matter of fact, I would gladly pay to retake this workshop again because it was so valuable to me.

My name is Dr. Ahedahlyah B Yehuda. I've been an out of hospital midwife, for over 15yrs. I am a member of The Hebrew Israelite community, in a small town in Dimona, Israel. We arrived with very open, eager minds and were very happy and satisfied with the way our minds were filled with much needed information, and the hands-on methods Augustine used to teach , as well as, the coming together with other experienced midwives to learn and share knowledge.
We have the blessed opportunity to personally walk our mothers from conception to birth, and arrive at what some would call, "butter births". We are very meticulously involved in every step of this journey. When and if there does arise those rare incidents of a complication, we transfer our mothers to the nearby hospital.
After taking the course, however, we learned the confidence to comfortably deal with complications and be' wise' midwives, who practice defensive/preventive midwifery. We went another step higher in our knowledge of the importance of team work, problem solving for common situations, reading signs from the mother and baby properly and in a timely fashion, the pros and cons of medications, and when to use them, how to communicate with everyone in the birthing environment as well as medical staff, we brushed up on our suturing skills and IV usage, reviewed definitions and midwifery jargon universally used, and left feeling ready to be better midwives for our birthing families.
Would I recommend this course for other seasoned midwives? ABSOLUTELY!
One may say, all good midwives should already know these things...well, no one knows everything and learning never ends. Our skills as experienced midwives can always be sharpened. We were trained on different levels and by instructors with different methods, mindsets and beliefs. Therefore to come together with a refresher courses like Augustine's, is invaluable. I feel stronger and definitely more secure after taking this course and I look forward to others on this level in the near future.

I just wanted to thank you for the lovely workshop. It was very informative. You are definitely a teacher, how sad that I couldn't have more time with you learning all the practical stuff.
Keep up with your good work and I the meantime I'll try and organize an invitation for you to our conference next year!
Keep well, Kind regards,
Pretoria, South Africa
This workshop balanced information whether you were a student to a seasoned practicing midwife... it filled in blanks, gave confidence with cautions and sensibility in regard to midwifery's defensibility in the complexities it faces as it advances.

Thank you so much for the class I was privileged to take from you. While I have just recently become a CPM, the first home birth I attended was in 1979! Your class, I believe, has been the most helpful of any classes I have taken to date. I have trained myself to watch the monitor readings at the hospital so as to assess what is going on with a baby and mama that I am responsible for, however, your explanations on baseline and fetal heart tones correlating with contractions were so clear and easy to understand. Even, though I have read and studied the different FHT patterns, it has been difficult to have a practical knowledge that carries into the home-birth realm. Thank you for taking a difficult subject and making it practical for us to make safer birthing for our clients!
What midwife doesn’t dread the posterior baby? Yet, after hearing your explanation even the older midwives amongst us commented on having a better understanding of what was going on as well as the confidence to give help to turn the baby. I cannot help but feel you have saved us many transports in your very clear explanations. And, I do not think any of us there understood the use of the Foley catheter for cervical ripening, even though we have read about it.
Your class brought to life skills that I try to apply, but now have the confidence to put them to practice in a way that actually is of benefit. This is such a need for us midwives, especially in rural areas.

After attending Augustine's workshop last weekend, I have a greater grasp on the topics taught, came away a more confident midwife, and have a much greater knowledge of the issues she covered. Augustine is doing an excellent job educating midwives and furthering their education.

Advanced Practice Midwifery Workshop, I believe was an excellent and needed class for practicing midwives to advance their skills, share knowledge with their peers and hands-on practice for real-life birth situations. Augustine presented each topic with the most updated evidence based practice for CPM's, and helped us have hands-on skills practice with other local midwives. These skills and knowledge were topics that I learned in midwifery school, but after practicing as a midwife and having more experience, this class allowed me to learn from previous birth situations and how to apply new skills and information. The information, learning, and midwife collaboration at this class was priceless. I highly recommend this class and plan on attending more classes that are offered by this instructor.

I would like to say that while these topics were taught in my basic student midwifery education, they by far did not go into this much depth, insight, and practical application as Ms. Colebrook’s workshop taught. For example, her techniques for visualizing and repairing a torn cervix, how to identify and resolve posterior and anterior asyncliticism in labor, techniques for placing a bulb Foley catheter in order to encourage labor, and the introduction of new equipment and materials for birth procedures were very useful and enlightening! I feel I can be a better midwife in my practice and my clients will benefit from my increased skills and knowledge by implementing the strategies Ms. Colebrook presented in this workshop.
